App Ranking Research Across Countries & Store Charts

A chart position is meaningful only in its market context. Compare the country, store, category, and chart type before drawing conclusions about an app’s reach.

Compare like with like

The Rankings workspace shows published positions for the selected store, country, chart, and category. Free, paid, and grossing charts answer different questions, so a position in one chart should not be compared directly with a position in another. Choose a consistent combination before looking at competing apps. Basic rankings are available to Free accounts within their result limit; Pro provides access to more published results.

Understand what country coverage means

An app’s geography details use its published chart appearances to show the countries represented in the dataset. The percentage for a country is its share of those chart appearances, not its share of downloads, active users, or revenue. An app missing from a country view may have no published observation for that market; that does not prove the app is unavailable there. Follow the store listing when availability is important to your research.

Use rankings alongside product evidence

Chart positions can help you identify products to investigate, but a high position does not explain customer satisfaction or long-term earnings. Compare the app’s rating, positioning, and update history with its published ranking context. Keep a note of the market and chart you used so later comparisons stay consistent. The website displays the research the owner has published rather than guaranteeing live, continuous chart coverage. For a decision that depends on a current position, verify it against the current store chart.
